The
North State shooting club notes that the North Carolina Adjutant
General of the North Carolina National Guard notes that civilian
participation in competitive shooting events helps to improve National
Defense and Public Safety:
“The AG wanted more community involvement with
the military so the club was designed to promote safe small arms skills,
marksmanship and good sportsmanship through competition between military
and civilian competitors.
Competitive shooting programs helps
improve National Defense and Public Safety.”
We are taking heed and practicing our sniper skills on our
home rifle range.
A good sniper instructor (ex-CIA, Secret Service, etc) costs between
$600-800 per day.
Janet has been doing great and she can now do a clean kill at over
200 yards (two football fields). We are looking forward to when we
can go to the Butner range, a 1,000 yard monster where we can open-up
with a 50 caliber sniper rifle at a length of ten football fields.
Civilian sniper skills improve National Defense and Public
Safety
The Second Amendment makes a direct reference to
a well-armed militia as being essential for National Security, and North
Carolina powers agree.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms,
shall not be infringed.”
Janet likes our AR-15 and she is quite good even with the standard
iron battle sights.

Using a sniper rifle for hunting big game
Because high velocity bullets are supersonic, the bullet will arrive
well in advanced of the sound of the gun shot, and using a rapid-fire
semi-automatic like an SR-15 will allow you to get-in several shots
before they run from the sound of your attack.
Supersonic bullets make a difference when hunting big game.
A Marine told me that the current world’s record for a sniper kill
was not a single shot, but a series of three shots, fired in rapid
succession. They used to say that a sniper only had the first
shot, since the prey would quickly skedaddle at the sound of the first
gun shot.
The speed of sound is 1,100 feet per second and the
world record sniper hit is at 8,000 feet, about 1.3 miles. By my
calculations, you have seven seconds between squeezing off the first
round and the sound of the report reaching the target.
I love
shooting supersonic bullets, you can actually see the shock wave as it
travels across the pasture. You can mount a high-magnification
rifle scope on an AR for super-good shots up to 400 yards:
Today’s 50 caliber bullets have a muzzle velocity of over 2,500 feet
per second, so the old saying “you never hear the bullet that kills you”
is quite true.
The first bullet will reach an 8,000 foot target
in three seconds, four seconds before the sound is heard.
